The Head Start Performance Standards require that all programs are monitored for effective implementation of the regulation stated to the right. This can be a stressful event for staff, managers and leadership. Consultation can prepare your team for the monitoring activities for program success in CLASS, FA1 and FA2
CONSULTATION FOCUS AREA
1. Overview of Monitoring Protocols with leadership team, Board Members, Policy Council members and staff.
2. Mock interviews in areas of Program Governance, Program Operations, and Financial and Administrative Standards with assigned staff, leadership, Board Members, and Policy Council members.
3. Utilization of Head Start Monitoring Protocols, COVID updates, Performance Standards, program self-assessment, action plan, child outcome data, and program data in preparation for monitoring practice.
4. Program specific guided questions asked to team to further explain uncertain or confusing areas.
5. Support to assist staff in connecting and communicating the work in the program to the Performance Standards.
6. Preparation and coaching with staff and leadership in Pre-K, Infant & Toddler CLASS observations and teaching practices, including breakdowns of strengths and areas of need.
(a) Section 641A(c) of the Act requires the Secretary to monitor whether a grantee meets program governance, program operations, and financial and administrative standards described in this regulation and to identify areas for improvements and areas of strength as part of the grantee’s ongoing self-assessment process. This subpart focuses on the monitoring process. It discusses areas of noncompliance, deficiencies, and corrective action through quality improvement plans.
